Marvel Studios Releases First Official Footage of Ironheart, Sets New MCU Record

Marvel Studios has finally released the first official footage from Ironheart, marking a significant milestone in the MCU’s history. Originally announced during Disney Investor Day in late 2020, the series has faced multiple delays, leaving fans anxious about its future. Despite concerns about potential cancellation, Marvel Studios recently confirmed that Ironheart will move forward on Disney+.
The series will serve as a semi-sequel to 2022’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, giving Dominique Thorne’s Riri Williams her own solo story after her impactful introduction in the film.
Ironheart’s First Footage Makes Marvel Studios History
In a brand spot titled “Celebrating 85 Years of Marvel,” Marvel Entertainment included the first publicly released footage from Ironheart. Although brief, the footage showcased Riri Williams in action, with one shot of her yelling inside her helmet and another of her flying at high speeds alongside cars in her Ironheart suit.
This release is historic for Marvel Studios, as it marks the first time an MCU live-action project has taken more than two years from the start of filming to the public release of its first footage. Filming for Ironheart began in late May 2022, making it approximately a two-year, three-month gap until the footage debuted.
Previously, the longest gap between the start of filming and the first footage release was for 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. That film began filming in April 2017, with its first trailer debuting in December 2018, totalling a 20-month gap.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, 2021’s Loki holds the record for the shortest gap. Filming began in February 2020, and the first footage was released just a few months later during Marvel Studios’ Super Bowl spot in February 2020.
What’s Next for the Series?
Riri Williams made a strong debut in the MCU with her role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. However, the delays surrounding her solo series have left fans concerned, especially with no official release date announced. As it stands, it will likely be over two years between Dominique Thorne’s appearances in the MCU.
While some fans have caught glimpses of the series in trailers at D23 Expos, a full trailer for Ironheart has yet to be released. Despite this, anticipation remains high as fans look forward to seeing Riri Williams expand her tech prowess and protect her hometown of Chicago.
With formidable foes like The Hood, played by Anthony Ramos (Twisters), challenging her, Ironheart promises to deliver plenty of excitement when it finally premieres on Disney+.
