The operation ‘Budapest’ took years to be revealed within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the movie Black Widow, it is revealed that Natasha and Clint Barton were setting up bombs to kill Dreykov, who ran the Red Room.

The two spent days in hiding together as they set up an ambush for the general. However, the mission failed, as the general’s daughter was eventually murdered, creating a burden that Natasha has been carrying ever since.

Deleted ‘Motorcycle Chase’ Scene

Natasha and Yelena in Black Widow bike scene

In the ‘Motorcycle Chase’ scene, Natasha and Yelena are chased by the Coach through the streets of Budapest. Natasha turns the bike around and ends up in a dead-end. And Yelena complains: ‘you put us in a cage.’ And then Natasha replies: ‘ This gate wasn’t here eight years ago.

This particular deleted scene would actually have been quite useful, in that it shows how Natasha and Yelena initially shook off Taskmaster’s tank. The dialogue between the two former Black Widows provides a timeline for Natasha’s previous actions in Budapest, revealing she was last in the city eight years ago. Given Black Widow is dated in 2016, that would mean Natasha joined SHIELD in 2008 – the same year Tony Stark outed himself as Iron Man, and (according to tie-in comics) T’Challa became the Black Panther in Wakanda. 2008 really was the year the MCU began. It’s rather a shame this was cut.

In Marvel Studios spy thriller Black Widow, Natasha Romanoff, confronts the darkest parts of her background when a dangerous conspiracy connected with her past emerges. Pursued by a force that won’t stop until it catches her, Natasha must deal with her spy history and fractured relationships from long before she became an avenger.

Black Widow is running in theaters and available on Disney+ Premier Access.

In addition Looking at the not-so-great box office scenario in India, the makers of Black Widow have decided to skip the theatrical release in the country. Now, the Marvel film will premiere on Disney+ Hotstar on September 3, 2021.
