King Thanos Set to Shake Up Disney’s Avengers Campus and Possibly the MCU

King Thanos is poised to make a monumental splash at Disneyland’s Avengers Campus, and his creator, Josh Brolin, may be right there with him. During the 2022 D23 Expo, Disney and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige teased the arrival of a victorious Thanos Variant, spawning a wave of speculation about how this Mad Titan could return across the Multiverse—both in the parks and on the big screen.

Disney has confirmed that the forthcoming Avengers Campus attraction, officially titled Avengers: Infinity Defense, will begin its transformation process in early 2025. In fact, the iconic Red Car Trolley at Disney California Adventure will cease operation on February 8 to kick off construction. Concept art for the ride shows King Thanos battling guests and the Avengers in famous MCU settings like New York City, Asgard, and Wakanda.

Meanwhile, a Stark Flight Lab attraction is being built next door, featuring the talents of Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark. This dual expansion has fans wondering if other MCU heavyweights will join the fun, especially since Marvel stars often record material for Disney Parks while filming new projects. Josh Brolin himself stirred the pot at New York Comic Con by admitting he’s open to returning as Thanos—if the timing and storyline are right.

Could the Russo Brothers be planning Thanos’ grand comeback for their upcoming “Avengers: Doomsday” and eventual Avengers: Secret Wars? It might just happen. The directing duo is known for reassembling fan-favourite heroes and villains, and an alternate, even heroic Thanos could be an intriguing twist. The 2015 Secret Wars comics showed Thanos challenging Doctor Doom’s rule over Battleworld, so a live-action clash would offer a fresh spin on the Endgame showdown.

From a Disneyland perspective, King Thanos is perfect for an immersive park experience, as it doesn’t disrupt existing canon while still letting fans engage with Marvel’s most formidable foe. The new ride’s Multiversal premise gives creative freedom to explore crossovers, locations, and battles that aren’t confined to the MCU timeline.

As construction looms in 2025, anticipation for Avengers: Infinity Defense continues to build, setting the stage for what could be one of Disneyland’s biggest Marvel expansions yet. Whether or not Josh Brolin officially reprises his role remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: King Thanos is coming—and the countdown has already begun.
