Noor and Hamad’s Unique Yet Intriguing Honeymoon

In “Honeymoonish,” which debuted on Netflix worldwide on Monday and is directed by Lebanese filmmaker Elie El Semaan, a young man, Hamad, and a woman, Noor find themselves in dire situations, leading them to consider marriage as the only solution.

Boushahri portrays Hamad, a young Kuwaiti businessman whose plans for a major family business launch are thwarted when his father issues an ultimatum. Unless he marries and has a child within a month, he risks losing his inheritance.

Al Ghandour plays Noor, a Kuwaiti woman who discovers her boyfriend’s betrayal—he secretly married another woman instead of going on a business trip to Lebanon as he claimed. Determined to make him jealous, Noor decides to marry someone quickly and travel to the same honeymoon destination as her ex.

While the storyline is predictable, it’s the execution by the actors and writers that makes it enjoyable within this familiar framework.

Noor and Hamad, despite their differences, find themselves in a situation where they both need to get married quickly for their own reasons. Despite starting their marriage with awkwardness and lies, they embark on their honeymoon without much chemistry or love.

Their relationship gradually develops, reminiscent of rom-coms from the late 90s and early 2000s, a golden era for the genre.

While there are many captivating elements in Honeymoonish, the characters are the most endearing. Although the movie’s premise may not be entirely unique compared to Hollywood films, it manages to carve out its own distinct mood and quality.

One of the highlights of the movie is the adorable yet humorous conflicts between Noor and Hamad, sprinkled with a hint of innocent love.

Where to Watch?

Honeymoonish is now streaming officially on Netflix.

Nour Al Ghandour and Mahmoud Boushahri have fantastic chemistry on screen and impeccable comedic timing. They complement each other well, especially in portraying the mishaps of their characters’ early days of marriage. The strength of their performances makes you cheer for the success of Noor and Hamad’s unconventional union, even when the humor falls short.
