Across the Spider-Verse Swings Onto Disney+ This May

Friday, May 1, 2025, is shaping up to be a web-slinging celebration for Spider-Man fans. Disney+ has officially announced that Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be available to stream starting May 1, marking a historic moment for the franchise.
This is the first time the animated sequel will be available on Disney+ in the United States, despite having already premiered in other regions like the U.K. and Canada. With this release, Marvel fans in the U.S. will finally get to revisit Miles Morales’ epic journey across the multiverse right from their Disney+ homepage.
Sony and Disney’s Spider-Verse Deal Explained
The streaming debut of Across the Spider-Verse on Disney+ comes through a special licensing deal between Sony Pictures and Disney. Under this agreement, Sony’s Spider-Man-related titles make their way to Disney+ after their 18-month Pay 1 window on Netflix, entering Disney’s “Pay 2” streaming window.
Previously, Morbius was the first Sony film to stream under this arrangement. But Across the Spider-Verse is the first animated Spider-Man movie from Sony to make it to Disney+ in the U.S.
Originally released in theaters on June 2, 2023, the film stars Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Oscar Isaac, and Jake Johnson. It earned critical acclaim, boasting a 95% critic score and a 94% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes — proof that the sequel lived up to the legacy of Into the Spider-Verse.
Spider-Man’s Summer 2025 Is Just Getting Started
May 1 isn’t just a one-off celebration — it’s the beginning of what promises to be a massive summer for the Spider-Verse and beyond.
Here’s what’s coming:
- Spider-Man: Brand New Day is expected to begin filming this summer ahead of its July 31, 2026 release. With Stranger Things star Sadie Sink already confirmed to be part of the cast, more details about Tom Holland’s return and the film’s storyline should be revealed soon.
- Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will swing into theaters on June 4, 2027. While fans might have to wait a while, expect teasers and new updates as production ramps up.
Animated and streaming projects are also gearing up:
- Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 2 (Disney+, 2025)
- Spidey and His Amazing Friends Season 4 (Disney Junior, 2025–26)
- Spider-Noir (MGM+, 2026), bringing a darker take on the Spider-Verse
Additionally, with Avengers: Doomsday officially in production in the U.K., fans are speculating that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will finally be confirmed as part of the ensemble — after being mysteriously left out of the initial cast announcement.
Even More: Spider-Man 3 Game from Insomniac in the Works
Over in the world of gaming, Insomniac Games is developing the highly anticipated Spider-Man 3 for the PlayStation 5. Although details remain scarce, leaks and rumors suggest this will be an even bigger adventure following the success of Spider-Man 2 (2023).
While the official announcement is still pending, fans should keep an eye out for teasers, gameplay leaks, or story updates — possibly arriving in 2025 or early 2026.
